Five Style Tips for Going Back to the Office

Heading back to the office? Here are 5 style tips to keep you comfortable while looking great!

After a long 18-months, office-workers are starting to be called back to the office. Those of us who have been sporting the zoom mullet (business-casual on top, slumber-party on the bottom) will now have to return to an environment where proper pants are expected. Some of us are thrilled to show off our best outfits again, while others dread the return to ‘hard pants’. In this blog post, we have compiled the most comfortably-chic fall fashion trends to make the leap back to the office a stylish one.

Sweatsuit, but make it fashion
First-up, no need to ditch the sweatsuit just yet. The monochromatic look of the summer has shifted gears into the fall. Try a comfortable, loose-fitting knit, french-tucked into trousers of the same colour. Camel-on-camel or off-white on off-white are a good place to start. Mix tailored pieces with pieces that have a more relaxed fit to satisfy both comfort and a professional appearance.

Oversized Wardrobe Staples
Oversized equals room to breath which equals comfort and the fall fashion trends have put oversized pieces front and centre. Ultra-tailored pant-suits have taken a back-seat to mens-wear inspired blazers layered upon a slim-fitting base. The base can be made up of a midi-length knit dress, trousers and a tank, or dark-wash jeans. We have also been loving the ease and polish of an oversized oxford in crisp white or blue, paired with relaxed-fit trousers.

Paperbag Pants
Elastic waistband? Yes please! Paperbag pants have run the gamut from culottes, to trousers, to leather pants, and jeans. They are comfortable, sit comfortably at the waist, and can still have a polished, office-ready look while being extremely easy-wearing. Pair with anything from a slim-fitting, light-weight turtleneck, to a collared shirt, or a knit crop-top.

Knits
Knits are having a moment and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Particularly, oversized sweater vests. Toronto-based fashion blogger and recent TikTok sensation Liv Judd described the sweater-vest as “the must-have silhouette of the season.” She paired it with smart black culottes and gold jewellery for an effortlessly cool, comfy look that’s perfect for the return to the office. Sweater dresses have also been making a comeback, as have riding boots for the quintessential apple-picking outfit.

Loafers
A perfect business-casual stand-in for slippers, a good pair of loafers never goes out of style.

Whether or not you’re going back to the office, September always feels like turning a new page. Returning to a routine after the summer is a great time to take a look at your closet and plan some new outfits. Shopping at consignment stores is a great way to try the latest trends and invest in the classics for a fraction of the price of traditional retail, making these transitional periods easier on the wallet.
