Consignment Style: Vogue’s Spring/Summer 2023 Trends

Recently, British Vogue scoured the fashion week runways to put together their list of 10 key trends for Spring/Summer 2023. Today, we’re sharing a few trend predictions that caught the Trove team’s eye, as well as our tips on how to get the look with pieces from Trove’s summer collection. Let’s get started!

Utilitarian Fashion

If you wish every piece of clothing had pockets, you’re in luck: utilitarian styling is back just in time for your summer excursions. Cargo pants and skirts are a popular choice thanks to their durable fabrics and plethora of storage options. Balance the look of bulkier pockets with a slim-cut top that makes the additional volume seem intentional. Read more tips on balancing an outfit here.

Head-to-Toe Denim

Y2K fashion continues to rule the runways, but if low-rise denim isn’t your thing, why not try mixing denim washes? Pull out your favourite denim pieces and experiment until you land on a look you love. To nail this trend, keep the washes a few shades apart, or pair total opposites together: a dark wash denim jacket with white jeans, or black jeans with a chambray shirt. Hint: since denim can usually be worn a few times before needing a wash, this is a great trend to try if you’re packing light for a weekend away!

Updated Grunge

The recent resurgence of 1990s fashion means that grunge is back in a big way. To update the grunge aesthetic for 2023, it’s all about balance: pair distressed denim and slouchy plaids with sleek accessories or shoes to give the look a distinctly grown-up edge. When in doubt, Doc Martens are a perennial favourite; they even make platform sandals for hot days!

Asymmetrical Hems

An asymmetrical hem is a fun way to add interest to a look. It also has the added benefit of making the wearer look taller! Because an asymmetrical hem draws attention to your shoes, showcase your favourite colourful flats, beaded sandals, and interesting mules when wearing an asymmetrical silhouette.

Lingerie as Daywear

Wearing lingerie out of the house might feel daunting, since dainty lace and sheer pieces may not offer the same amount of coverage as, say, jeans and a t-shirt. To take your favourite lingerie pieces out on the town, pair them with items from your everyday wardrobe: layer a bodysuit or bralette under a knit top, or pair a slip dress with a leather jacket. Accessorize with bold jewelry to complete the look.
