Fall is officially here, and the Trove team is gently tackling the seasonal task of switching over our closets from summer to fall. Today, we’re sharing a few tips on how to update your closet for fall 2023 while reducing your environmental footprint and being prepared for unpredictable weather. Let’s get started!
Shop Your Closet
The Trove team is always looking for ways to interrupt the harmful cycle of fast fashion. As the seasons change, we’re focusing on three things:
Reducing new clothing purchases
Buying pieces that are made to last
Recycling clothes at the end of their lifespan
To do this, start by visiting your own closet. Pull out items that you no longer gravitate to and donate or consign them. Set aside clothing that has reached the end of its lifespan and drop your textiles off to be recycled correctly. Showcase Colourful Accessories
If you gravitate toward neutrals in the fall, you’re not alone – classic shades such as camel, cream, and navy are fall classics for a reason. Luckily, a neutral outfit makes a great backdrop for your gorgeous pieces!
Showcase those great earrings you bought at a craft market, stay warm with a vibrant secondhand scarf, or pack the essentials in your favourite statement bag. A dry fall day is a great opportunity to take your cool sneakers or cute flats out for a last spin before switching to boots.
Add a Layer
Layers? For fall? We know – groundbreaking! But hear us out: while winter outwear is heavy-duty (and expensive), fall outerwear is more accessible and easier to switch up as the mood strikes. Here are some outerwear trends we’re loving in 2023:
1. Fuzzy Everything
The teddy bear coat was everywhere in 2022, and we’re excited to rock this trend again as the temperature drops. Whether it’s made of sherpa, bouclé, or faux fur, this type of jacket is a great (and cute!) way to keep warm. To update this trend for 2023, opt for deep colours or funky prints.
2. Relaxed Collars
We love the casual look of a relaxed trench or plaid shacket when paired with our fall outfits. Best of all, you might already have one or more of these in your closet!
A classic wool trench in a neutral shade is one of our recommended investment pieces, and this timeless closet staple will serve you for years to come. To nail the relaxed 2023 approach to outerwear, roll the sleeves or rock it unbelted.
