Our Favourite Summer 2022 Trends

Spring is finally here! As the days get longer and the weather gets warmer, we’re counting down the days until the official start of summer and getting our closets ready for the heat and sun. Here are some of our team’s favourite summer 2022 trends:

White Tanks
A white tank is hardly a new trend (Cindy Crawford made it iconic with her 1992 Pepsi ad), but it’s the perfect base layer for your summer looks. White fabric doesn’t absorb as much of the sun’s heat as darker fabrics, allowing you to stay cool even on the hottest day. Opt for a lightweight, breathable fabric like cotton, then tuck your tank into high-waisted jeans, pair an embellished version with a skirt, or crop it for a casual approach to this popular trend. No matter how you style it, you’ll look timeless and feel comfortable.

Y2K Fashion
Early 2000s fashion is back in a big way: platforms, bootcut or baggy denim, crop tops, butterflies – you name it. This style era can be polarizing, so if you want to embrace this trend without subjecting yourself to low-rise jeans, we suggest opting for accessories rather than a head-to-toe look. To subtly pay homage to the YK2 trend, look for a pair of frameless sunglasses or a kitschy trucker hat. The best part is that these items are very easy to find secondhand, since this trend has come and gone in the recent past!

Handmade and Natural Textiles
Handmade items continue to increase in popularity as more shoppers embrace the slow fashion movement. Crochet tops, hand-knit sweaters, and ceramic jewelry command a higher price point that reflects the time and craftsmanship that went into creating the item. Natural textiles such as linen and seersucker are summertime favourites due to their comfort and wearability. On the accessories side, woven bags in straw and rattan add a beautiful natural touch to a summer look.

Preppy & Nautical Inspiration
With the return of warm weather comes the return of preppy sports like tennis, golf, and sailing. To nail this timeless style, look for crisp and brightly-coloured polos, classic plaids in lightweight fabrics, and stripes, of course! You can often find preppy brands like Lacoste and Ralph Lauren at secondhand boutiques for a fraction of the price, and many of these well-made basics can transition well to other seasons, increasing their wearability.

Breezy Footwear
Finally, don’t forget shoes! Slides continue to be the summer’s trendiest footwear, which is good news for Birkenstock fans – those comfortable sandals look great with any outfit. If you’re headed to the office and need a closed-toe option, leather loafers are a comfortable step up from your weekend sandals. For an evening out, reach for a pair of trendy Y2K “flatforms” (aka flat platforms) to add height without a precarious heel.
