Packing for a Summer Weekend Away

Summer travel season is finally upon us! The Trove team is so excited to head out on adventures this summer, but no matter how we’re traveling – flying, taking the train, or road tripping with friends – we know that the baggage allowance (or trunk space) is more restrictive than ever.

Whether you’re packing for a weekend getaway or a couple of weeks abroad, you’ll want to ruthlessly edit your packing list to ensure that you’re not exceeding bag dimension or weight limits. Traveling light also reduces the need to make outfit-related decisions and speeds up the process of getting dressed and out the door in the morning.

If you’re worried about repeating outfits, have no fear! With the right mix of accessories in your suitcase, you can easily switch up your look without adding bulk to your suitcase. Here are a few of our favourite accessories for summer travel:

Hats
Hats are a must when traveling in the summer as they protect your scalp, skin, and eyes from sun damage. Bucket hats are incredibly trendy in 2022 and fold down flat, making them easy to pack. If you want to travel with a larger hat, such as a straw beach hat, look for one that has some give and won’t look worse for wear after a few hours in your suitcase. We have a wide selection of hats and visors at Trove Fashion at the moment! (Please note that these are new items, not consignment pieces.)

Scarves
Did you know that your hair can also suffer from UV damage? A scarf is a great way to protect your hair from sun damage, and it can also help prevent your hair from getting tangled during a windy day at the beach. A colourful scarf adds a fun twist to a limited travel wardrobe: channel your inner 60s Hollywood bombshell and reach for interesting patterns and eye-catching colour combinations that will look great in your holiday photos.

Sunglasses
Pack a few pairs of sunglasses to switch up your travel looks while protecting your eyes from the elements. Oversized 70s acetate shades are a classic choice, as are aviators or Ray-Ban Wayfarers. To embrace the popular Y2K trend, opt for rimless wrap-around sunglasses with colourful lenses or rhinestone accents.

Footwear
When packing shoes for a trip, consider the activities on your schedule. For most trips, you shouldn’t need more than three pairs of footwear: a pair of stylish sneakers or loafers for touring, nice sandals for an evening out, and beach-appropriate flip-flops or sandals. Keep shoes to a minimum when packing to avoid adding extra weight to your suitcase, and only pack footwear that you’ve worn before to avoid blisters!

Tip: If you’re clearing out your closet to make way for new clothing and accessories, why not consign with us? Trove Fashion accepts gently-used pieces on a seasonal basis. Visit our Consign with Us page or stop by the shop for details.
