Transitioning Your Closet from Winter to Spring
Spring is here! Well, spring MIGHT be here. The weather is still fluctuating as winter comes to an end, bringing with it everything from sun to hail to thundersnow. If you’re feeling confused about how to put together outfits during this stretch of the year, you’re not alone!
Not to worry – today, we’re sharing some tips on how to transition your closet from winter to spring, so you can pull out your favourite seasonal pieces without freezing during an unexpected cold snap. Let’s dive in!
Stay Ready with Light Layers
Eager to add some of your spring favourites back into your weekly rotation, but not sure what the day will bring? Pull together an outfit with light layers that will keep you warm and dry when the weather takes a turn, but that you can also easily remove as needed.
A lightweight dress pairs well with tights and boots for a perfect springtime date look, while a floaty blouse is a great choice under a chunky knit cardigan or bold blazer at the office. When layering for an early April outing, the Trove team loves denim jackets and lightweight knits like these:
Lighten the Colour Palette
This spring, we’re focusing on saturated, joyful colours, so trade your dark winter palette for a rainbow of vibrant pastels. We love digital lavender right now – this colour pairs well with other pastel shades such as pink or mint green, but it also looks great with your favourite denim.
If you want to approach colour in a maximalist way, focus on layering prints or contrasting materials that bring you joy. If you lean towards minimalism, use accessories to add a touch of colour to an otherwise neutral outfit. Jewelry, a cool cardigan, or a print scarf can all help build up interest without feeling overwhelming.
Declutter as You Go
Before you put away your cold weather clothing, do some decluttering to make room for new goodies! You likely have a stash of hats, scarves, tights and socks that didn’t get any wear this past winter. We suggest pulling out all your seasonal pieces and checking the condition and fit of each item. Put the items you love in the “keep” pile, then make a plan to declutter the rest.
You can consign new or gently-used pieces with Trove Fashion. If your items are in used condition but still have life in them, consider donating them to community organizations in your area.
Trove Tip: Have you checked out our new online shop? We upload new items every Tuesday and Thursday, so keep an eye on our social media to get notified when new pieces drop!
