Trendy & Comfortable Summer Festival Essentials

2022 marks the return of many festivals that have been on hiatus for the past two summers. Whether you’re attending Ottawa Bluesfest, the Toronto Festival of Beer, the Vancouver Celebration of Lights, or any of the hundreds of other outdoor celebrations taking place across the country this summer, we’ve got style ideas to keep you stylish and comfortable all day long.

Step 1: Select a Bag
Keep the type of festival in mind when choosing your bag. If you’re heading to a food and beverage sampling event, opt for something that frees up your hands, like a trendy crossbody fanny pack. For events with shopping involved, like a farmers’ market or vintage clothing show, go with a roomy straw tote to hold all your finds. If you’ll be doing lots of walking, a mini backpack helps distribute the weight to avoid shoulder strain throughout the day.

Step 2: Pack the Essentials
Next, pack the essentials. No matter the event, you’ll need adequate sun protection, including sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat (more on this below). Hand sanitizer and tissues or wipes are handy for outdoor dining, and pack a bandage or two just in case. Lastly, don’t forget your water bottle! Some events may have restrictions on what you can bring in – for example, some venues prohibit glass bottles – so check their website FAQs ahead of time to avoid issues at the gate.

Step 3: Pick a Hat
Whether you prefer a classic baseball cap, breezy straw hat, or trendy bucket hat, make sure to keep your head covered – it’s the best way to protect your eyes, hair, and scalp from damaging UV rays, glare, and wind. Better yet, because hats come in every shape and colour, you don’t need to compromise your style for the sake of sun safety. We recently wrote about our favourite summer hats and how to style them; check out our post for more information and style inspiration!

Step 4: Choose the Right Footwear
When selecting shoes for an outdoor festival, consider the venue first. Will you be standing on concrete all day, or is the event taking place in a grassy field? Is there rain in the forecast? Are you at risk of having someone step on your toes in a crowd? For most outings, we recommend reaching for a pair of stylish sneakers or loafers that you’re comfortable standing for extended periods of time. Steer clear of flip flops or open-toed sandals in crowded situations to avoid injuries.

Step 5: Pull the Outfit Together
Now it’s time to pull your outfit together! Summer festivals are all about enjoying the best of what the season has to offer, and this extends to your clothing choices. Whether you opt for a mid-length sundress, cute floral romper, or a classic denim shorts & white tee combo, choosing a comfortable look that makes you feel happy is the way to go. If you love your look, you’ll feel confident and relaxed all day long.
