5 Ways to style your favourite sweater

As the days get chillier, we’re starting to break out our favourite sweaters for the Winter season. Sweaters are such a great piece to layer and style. From cozy to chic, versatility is key when it’s the main piece of clothing we wear from October to March. In this blog post, we look at five ways to style your sweaters!

Cropped Cardigan
With nothing but a bra underneath, button up your cropped cardigan all the way and french tuck the front. This creates a flattering v-shaped neckline and draped silhouette. Style this look with high waisted jeans, leather trousers, or a midi skirt for a French-girl inspired look.

Sweater Vest
Sweater vests have become really popular this year. Style it over a collared button up shirt or over a midi dress to add a bit of warmth and flare to an otherwise simple outfit. With mens-wear inspired pieces, you can define your waist with a belt or with a cropped sweater.

If you vest has shoulder-pads, ensure that you balance the rest of your look with structured trousers to create an hourglass shape rather than an inverted triangle.

Cashmere Turtleneck
A simple turtleneck is a closet staple for winter. Not only does it keep you warm, but it easily elevates an outfit! Style it tucked into trousers with statement jewellery. Top it off with a peacoat overtop and you’re ready for the office.

Lululemon Scuba Sweater
An athletic sweater, like the Lululemon Scuba Sweater is great for lounging around, going to the gym, or if you just want to be comfortable. Style a scuba sweater with some leggings for the ultimate après-ski look!

Chunky Knit Sweater
A chunky knit is the ultimate intersection between comfort and style. You can look effortlessly put together by french tucking it into your favourite jeans or pants, or a midi skirt on those warmer Winter days. Looking for more in-depth ways to style a chunky knit? When pulling your wooly sweaters out of storage, consider going through a few annual care steps to keep them looking fresh. Firstly, give them a good wash. Many heavy knit sweaters are hand-wash only. Fill up your sink or tub with warm water, and using your gentle detergent of choice, soak the garment in the water. Pay attention to any stains or tough spots and use this time to remove them by gently rubbing the spot. Rinse the garment in clean water. Wring it out well and find a place where you can lay them out smooth to dry. It’s important to lay them on a clean, flat surface out of direct sunlight. Hanging knits can cause them to stretch and sag, so it’s important to lay them flat to keep their intended shape. Once they are dry, look for any pilling. The number one way we like to keep our sweaters looking fresh is by de-pilling them. You can use a razor or carefully snip away, but the best way to do it is with this Conair Fabric Shaver. For less than $20, this tool quickly removes all the pills in your sweater giving you a sweater that looks brand-new for the season.

TIP: Going through these steps prior to consigning your pieces will likely get you a higher price on the resale!

Our favourite thing about this cooler season is the many ways you can style your favourite sweaters! What is your favourite sweater to wear in the colder months?
